VFW National Writes:
VFW encourages every American to give thanks to America's heroes
Rooted in unique traditions, cultures and recipes, Thanksgiving Day offers each and every one of us a time to express our gratitude and appreciation for the blessings in our lives. Big or small, everyone has something to be thankful for.
This Thanksgiving, as we gather together with friends and family in celebration of all we hold dear, the VFW encourages every American to give thanks to the men and women of the U.S. armed forces whose service and sacrifice allow us this very opportunity.
Today and every day, the VFW gives thanks to all service members, veterans and their families.
Mental Wellness Seminar
In 2014, an average of 20 Veterans died from suicide each day.
There is continued evidence of a high burden of suicide among middle-aged and older adult Veterans. In 2014, approximately 65% of all Veterans who died from suicide were aged 50 years or older.
In support of the VFW's 2016 – 2017 Mental Wellness Campaign J.J. Raby VFW Post 445 and the American Legion Post 147 will offer an informational seminar on Mental Wellness: Awareness, Care, and Resources. The seminar will be held on Monday, December 5th, 7:00pm at the American Legion Hall located at 968 Folly Road on James Island. All veterans, military, and families are invited to attend.
This seminar will provide information on the signs and symptoms of mental health issues including PTSD and traumatic brain injury and offer information on and an opportunity to meet with representatives from some of the many resources available to help cope with the effects of these invisible injuries.
Please get the word out! Attached is a flyer. Please print as many as you need to put up, hand out, make available to your members and families.
